The animated advert tells the story of a schoolgirl named Elsie, who dreams of being an astronaut. In the opening seconds, we learn of Elsie’s interest in space travel and see her receive an astronaut helmet for Christmas. A series of snapshots in time follow, where we see her pursue her interest in the universe over the years – the Christmas gift still with her on each occasion. Near the end of the advert, we see adult Elsie setting off in the car – the helmet still present – leaving home to study astrophysics at university. And in the final seconds, the clock goes forward again, and we see her parents standing outside looking up at the night sky. We then cut to a scene in space, from where Elsie looks through her helmet at the earth below – her lifelong dream fulfilled.
The creative team at St Luke’s said: “We wanted to inspire children everywhere to reach for the stars and dream big. Showing them they can be whatever they want to be.”
Sylvia Woon, chief marketing officer at Shop Direct said: “The greatest gift you can give someone is the power to be whoever and whatever they want to be – and that’s what we’ve focused on this year. Our Find Their Gift campaign aims to put Very at the heart of Christmas, inspiring consumers to give that one gift that could help a loved one realise their dreams.”
