RTÉ One’s flagship show – and incidentally, the world’s second longest-running TV chat show – returned from its summer break on Friday 6th September 2019. The set has been updated since last season. And the iconic theme tune, which ran from the show’s launch in 1962, until the departure of original host Gay Byrne in May 1999, was reinstated, albeit in a new edit, and with an updated voiceover.
A new title sequence was also introduced. And it looks as though visuals can be updated regularly – guests from the previous week’s show turned up in the title sequence broadcast on 13th September 2019.
Graphic design was managed by Carol Coffey. Marcella Power managed the updates to the set design.
Here’s some video footage of the show from Friday 13th September 2019, including the opening title sequence, shots of the set and examples of the new commercial break stings.
Apologies for the fact that we only had access to RTÉ One SD, so the images and video on this page aren’t quite up to our usual standard.
