RTÉ launched a new corporate logo in December 1986. The new design was created by Raymond Kyne and Associates, Dublin. The updated corporate logo was introduced to coincide with the twenty-fifth anniversary of the launch of RTÉ's television service on New Year's Eve 1961.
In the early hours of January 01 1987, RTÉ One and RTÉ Two aired their new channel idents, featuring the new RTÉ logo.
For much of the 1987/1988 period, RTÉ Two did not have a station clock. They did experiment with a new electronically-generated timepiece for a while but the software proved unreliable, crashing on-air on at least one occasion.
