The festive idents first appeared on Monday December 17 2001. Channel 5 creative services produced the idents inspired by early cinema (Méliès and Lumière) and victorian Christmas scenes. Created from hand-painted artwork, models and live action, they were directed by Channel 5's Dominic Sykes and executive produced by Nol Davis.
Channel 5 staff play some of the characters featured. The idents were shot on digibeta by Mark Cridlin and composited by Ron Ganbar using Nothing Real's Shake at X Ray FX. Bart Elsmore composed the music.
