General information
The TV Room was launched in 1999. The site charts the history of television branding and presentation graphics on UK and Irish television, from the pioneering days of broadcasting right up to the present day. Our sister site, The TV Room +, was launched in 2003. There you will find a wealth of information relating to television continuity announcers, presenters, programme title sequences and graphics, promotion packages, old television listings and much more.

Since 2006, The TV Room has been supported by Promax UK, an organisation representing the broadcast marketing, promotions and design community. The Promax UK Board includes senior figures from the country's major broadcast organisations and design agencies. Promax UK is affiliated to Promax/BDA.

Neither The TV Room nor The TV Room + has any direct connection with the broadcasting organisations whose material is featured on their pages. If you wish to comment on any aspect of a broadcaster's output, you will need to contact the broadcaster directly.

We are sorry but we cannot provide copies of material featured on The TV Room or The TV Room +.
Plans for The TV Room in 2009
Since the site launched in 1999, the online landscape has changed: technology has moved on, and visitors' expectations have risen considerably. As a non-profit-making site, with very limited resources, it has been tough keeping up with the pace of change. During the last couple of years, a huge amount of effort has been put in to help keep the site relevant. During 2009, I hope to implement a series of improvements that will further enhance the usefulness, quality and reputation of the site.

The key changes planned for the year ahead include:

• Excellent progress was made during 2008 with respect to the ongoing rebuild of the main site. Hopefully, this project will come to a conclusion in the first quarter of 2009.

• All 4:3 images on the main site, and various sections on The TV Room +, will be upgraded to a new, larger resolution during the first quarter of 2009. An increasing number of people are now using screen resolutions of 1152 x 864 and greater, and find that our 4:3 images appear rather small. During January and February, we hope to update over 80,000 of our 4:3 images to the new size.

• To date, there has been very little activity within the TV Promotions and TV Titles sections on The TV Room +. I hope to breathe some life into these sections during 2009.

• There are still many gaps within the TV News section. I would hope to restore all regional and national news coverage by the end of summer 2009.

• During January, all video clips across both sites will be removed. The demand for our existing portfolio of Real Media clips has dropped off considerably in recent years. As a result, it is difficult to justify the cost of hosting the files. However, I am investigating options for a new Flash-based 'player', which could be introduced later in the year. The new mechanism would be used to provide high-quality clips for key content, such as idents, and newly-developed trails and title sequences.

Those are the major changes planned for 2009.

Do you have a view on any of the plans outlined above? Do you have any suggestions for the future development of the site? Let me know what you think - contact me (anonymously if you wish) via the Contact page.
